Anja Miller

Anja Miller, upon returning from Finland in 1973, was encouraged to run for Brisbane City Council. With a background in English, television production, and activism, she was elected to the council with the most votes and later became our first female mayor. She brought civility to the council, secured federal funds for more city infrastructure, and facilitated the creation of a park on our San Bruno Mountain. Beyond her local achievements, Anja collaborated with Mayor Clem Jones of Brisbane, Australia, and was honored by Finland for her contributions to Finnish-American relations. Learn more about her contributions in "Brisbane: The First 25 Years," accessible below!
